HCDP Chair Calls for Removal of Cy-Fair School Board Member

A newly elected Cy-Fair school board member this week linked the district’s greater percentage of black teachers to poorer student performance. GOP-backed Scott Henry’s declaration at a district meeting “should result in much more than an outcry,” said HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu, calling for Henry’s removal from the board.

Kick off the New Year right with HCDP’s first volunteer event of 2022!
HCDP and the Texas Democrats are teaming up on Saturday, Jan. 15 and Sunday, Jan. 16 for a weekend of block walking. Volunteers are needed on both days to help hit a goal of 1500 potential voters reached. There are multiple time slots available so everyone is encouraged to find a time that fits and come out to help keep Harris County decidedly blue!
HCDP Launches Weekly Training Series

HCDP is partnering with Swing Texas Left to offer a Weekly Training Series, hosted virtually. The first class, Organizing Your Precinct, was held on Jan. 13. The series will continue as follows:
Week 2 — Jan. 20: Organizing a Phone Bank
Week 3 — Jan. 27: Organizing a Block Walk
Week 4 — Feb. 3: Using VAN & MiniVAN
Week 5 — Feb. 10: Voter Registration Best Practices
Week 6 — Feb. 17: Working at the Polls
Week 7 — Feb. 24: Canvassing Apartments & Gated Communities
Week 8 — March 3: Understanding the Election Cycle
Early Voting Has Begun for District G Special Election
Residents of District G have begun voting in a nonpartisan special election for Houston City Council. The Early Voting period runs until Jan. 21 at four locations. Election Day is Jan. 25.

Join the “Old” SD17 Send-Off Celebration
Join the Texas SD 17 Democrats and the Bayou Blue Democrats for an SD17 Send Off event on Sunday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Maggiano's Little Italy-Houston Galleria (2019 Post Oak).
We’re saying goodbye to the old Senate District 17 as the new precinct maps are adopted. Heavy hors d'oeuvres, sweets table, and cash bar. One free drink for the first 50 people at the door.
Get Ready for Sign Fest
Save the Date for Sign Fest 2022, a candidate campaign sign and literature drop event!
The contact-free, drive-through party will take place in the HCDP parking lot on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Precinct Chair Filing Period:
All current precinct chairs or anyone who would like to become a precinct chair must file an “Application for a Place on the General Primary Ballot for a Precinct or County Chair” between January 15, 2022, and 6:00 pm on February 12, 2022.
**Due to COVID, HCDP is not open to the public.
With that change, please review the process to complete and submit an application.
