Special Alert: Mail-In Ballots Require Extra Postage

HCDP is asking everyone to spread the word to Vote-By-Mail Voters: Don't let your ballot get returned because of insufficient postage. The multi-page ballot requires ** 78 cents ** postage (that's TWO Forever stamps).
We recommend mailing your ballot at least 7 days prior to Election Day (March 1, 2022) in case of delivery delays.
Harris County Democrats Call for Removal of GOP Precinct Chair

The Harris County Democratic Party this week called for the immediate removal of Harris County GOP Precinct Chair Carla Richburg, whose proposed resolutions for her precinct were described — by her own political party — as “offensive” and “promoting… actions that would be unquestionably unconstitutional.”
“We ask the Harris County Republican Party to stand up against this sad but not shocking display of hatred by removing Richburg from her leadership role,” said HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu. “Actions like hers should not and cannot be ignored.
“Failing to remove Richburg is condoning her actions.”

HCDP Chair Denounces Recently Reported Hate Speech

A Harris County resident near Cypress raised concern over the weekend about the distribution of racist fliers in her neighborhood. The offensive propaganda was authored by unidentified people calling themselves the Aryan Freedom Network. The resident said the flyers — which depicted racist images of Blacks — were left on car windshields by individuals wearing masks.
Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu issued the following statement in response:
“This offensive propaganda is a hate-fueled attack, and we must stand together against it. I call on all Harris County residents to be active against racist propaganda of any kind.
HCDP Celebrates Black History Month

Black history is American history, & in Harris County we are making history every day. This month so far we've celebrated Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee — who in 2020 was voted the youngest and the first Black person elected to the position — and we've recognized Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth, who was elected to her position in 2020 after working more than 15 years in the clerk’s office. Hudspeth is the first Black female to hold the office.

For Our Precinct Chairs

Applications for Place on the Primary Ballot Due by Feb. 12
All current precinct chairs or anyone who would like to become a precinct chair must file an “Application for a Place on the General Primary Ballot for a Precinct or County Chair” by 6:00 pm on February 12, 2022.
**Due to COVID, HCDP is not open to the public. With that change, please review the process to complete and submit an application.
Common Mistakes to Avoid on Ballot Applications
Check out these common errors that prevent Precinct Chair ballot applications from being accepted:
- The top line should read, "Application for Precinct Chair on the Democratic Party General Primary Ballot.
- We need to know how you'd like your name on the ballot - please include that in the appropriate field
- You must fill in an occupation. "Retired" is perfectly acceptable.
- Don't forget that your name must be entered twice in the oath section - there are two separate spaces for your name in addition to your signature.
- Please include your precinct number in the oath in the 4th line down so that it says, "being a candidate for the office of Precinct Chair of Precinct 001" (or whatever is the correct precinct number for you.)
- All Applications are due by February 12, 2022. Please email completed, notarized forms to election2022@harrisdemocrats.com.
