HCDP Chair Calls Out County GOP Press Conference as ‘Hype’
In a press conference on Wednesday — their third held since the election — the Harris County GOP suggested a special oversight committee for elections, a request Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu calls “redundant” and “hype designed to create unwarranted fear about our election process.”
A committee already exists to provide elections oversight," Evbagharu said. "The Harris County Elections Committee — made up of both party chairs, the county judge, the county clerk, and the county tax assessor — is designed to provide direction and supervision over elections held in Harris County.
Two Candidates File for District 147 Special Election
Two candidates, Danielle Keys Bess and Jolanda Jones will face each other in the May 7 Special Election for Texas House District seat 147, formerly held by Rep. Garnet Coleman. The winner of the Special Election will serve as the HD 147 Representative through the end of former Representative Coleman’s term on January 10, 2023.
TDP, HCDP Hold Press Conference to Address Repeated Republican Attacks on Voting Rights
HCDP and TDP held a joint press conference on March 3 to address Republican attacks on voting rights in Texas following the primary election on March 1. HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu and TDP Chair Gilberto Hinojosa were joined by a group of Democratic legislators and party officials to discuss the negative effects Texas is already seeing from the Republican engineered anti-voting bill, Senate Bill 1, that passed just over 3 months ago on January 1.

HCDP 2022 Road Show
In 2019, HCDP went to 8 different State House districts to reach out to Democrats around Harris County. We had over 100 participants, many who had not been engaged before but were ready to start mobilizing for 2020. By bringing in new people, as well as activating volunteers already working in those neighborhoods, we expanded our capabilities and reach. We hosted canvasses and phone banks for each House District we visited as well — and were able to call over 15,000 voters and knock over 6,000 doors.
This year, we would like to go even bigger, and would be grateful for your participation and support for these outreach events! We plan to have training, lunch, and have the House District Candidate share a few words with the volunteers. Then immediately after, go out and canvass for the district!
Here are the first 4 HD’s we’re going to:
