HCDP Volunteers Extend Democratic Messaging County Wide

Thank You Volunteers

We cannot express how grateful we are for all the incredible things our volunteers accomplished in the weeks leading up to the primary election. Together, they placed more 4,000 door hangers on doors in neighborhoods across Harris County. They sent tens of thousands of text messages and called almost 11,000 voters. They delivered signs, attended events and helped educate eligible voters about how to register and where to learn about the candidates running.

We have amazing volunteers here at HCDP. We literally couldn’t have accomplished all this without you, and we can’t wait to see what we will do together moving forward! Because, we are just getting started!!

Review Shows Dramatic Increase in Mail Ballot Rejections

Primary Has Dramatic Increase in VBM Ballot Rejections

“A new Republican voting law led to the sharp rise in rejected ballots in the state’s recent primary election. An analysis shows that Black areas of Houston disproportionately had votes thrown out….

“The thousands of ballot rejections, and the racial disparity in rejections in Harris County, provide the clearest evidence yet that the major voting law passed last year by the Republican-controlled Texas Legislature has prevented significant numbers of people from voting.” Learn more.

Top 3 Credit Agencies to Remove Most Medical Debts from Reports

Changes in Credit Reporting Policy

The three biggest credit-reporting agencies say, starting this summer, they will change to how they report medical debt.

“Debts that are paid off after they go to collections will be removed, instead of staying on credit reports for up to seven years.”

“The companies said the changes would eliminate up to 70 percent of the medical debt accounts on consumers’ credit reports, which contain reams of data used to calculate the all-important three-digit credit score that is the key to mortgages, car loans, rental agreements and more.”

HCDP 2022 Road Show

Before COVID shut things down, HCDP went to 8 different State House districts to reach out to Democrats around Harris County. We had over 100 participants, many who had not been engaged before, but were ready to start mobilizing for 2020. By bringing in new people, as well as activating volunteers already working in those neighborhoods, we expanded our capabilities and reach. We hosted canvasses and phone banks for each House District we visited as well— and were able to call over 15,000 voters and knock over 6,000 doors.

This year, we would like to go even bigger, and would be grateful for your participation and support for these outreach events! We plan to have training, lunch, and have the House District Candidate share a few words with the volunteers. Then immediately after, go out and canvass for the district!
