Support HCDP at Our ‘Bid on Blue’ Silent Auction May 26
The Harris County Democratic Party is hosting Bid on Blue, a virtual silent auction, on May 26, 2021 at 7:00 PM!
We're thrilled to have Beto O'Rourke opening the event and speaking about the importance of getting every single Democratic voter out for the 2022 midterm election.
We have an amazing selection of auction items available — like the Ted Cruz Cancun Pilgrimage for Two, where you can retrace the Cancun steps of our cowardly U.S. Senator. Just like Ted Cruz, you’ll get the last non-stop flight for two out of Houston via Southwest Airlines and one night at the Ritz Carlton Cancun. Bonus: We’ll send a foldable cutout of Ted Cruz with you to pose with in Cancun, and we’ll make those pics into a postcard to send to Ted. (Item donated by Benjamin Hernandez)
Sign up for the auction and start bidding today!
Join The Democratic Running Mates for ‘Pride Run’ 2021
Join HCDP to celebrate Pride Month and reflect on the impact the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community and their allies have had on local and national history. We believe Pride is a celebration of love for people of every gender, orientation, and identity.
YARD SIGN COMPETITION DETAILS
We want to showcase your inspiring artwork honoring Pride and the amazing pioneers who have made it possible to celebrate today.
Submit your yard sign design by Monday, May 24, 2021 at 7:00 PM by emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Artwork must fit a yard sign the size of 24 inches x 18 inches. The public will be voting for the winning sign.
Tuesday, May 25, 2021 through Monday, June 7, 2021 you can make a contribution to support our voter engagement efforts and receive a free yard sign! All funds raised will support HCDP’s voter registration program, underwrite our Leadership Academy, and help launch our voter engagement efforts for the 2022 midterm elections to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
Yard sign pick-ups will be held at our office, 4619 Lyons, 77020 on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
PRIDE RUN DETAILS
Our team, the Democratic Running Mates, will be running/walking at The Pride Run on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 7:30 AM! The Pride Run was launched to be the nation’s first intentionally LGBTQIA inclusive synchronized 5k/10k walk and run dedicated to bringing everyone in the community together to have fun, be active, and support a wonderful and diverse community.

On Our Blog: Proposed Education Bill Would Curb Effective Teaching Methods
I have been a history, government, and social studies teacher for almost a decade. In my classes, I make certain that my students are presented with multiple perspectives on historical events, and we discuss why people might see an event differently. This is a part of the job of every social studies teacher. Discussion of perspective and bias is intrinsic to teaching social studies. Texas House Bill 3979 will make that more difficult by adding ”teachers who choose to discuss current events or widely debated and currently controversial issues of public policy or social affairs shall, to the best of their ability, strive to explore such issues from diverse and contending perspectives without giving deference to any one perspective.”
Save a Life - Donate Blood at May 24 Blood Drive
Blood donations have become more scarce and critical during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Be a hero!
With your help and generous donation, each pint of blood we collect can help save up to three lives. At Masjid At-Tawheed on Monday, May 24.

Houston Chronicle: 'Collective Amnesia': Texas Politicians Knowingly Blew 3 Chances to Fix the Failing Power Grid
Over the last decade, lawmakers have "left the state’s lightly regulated energy markets alone, choosing cheap electricity over a more stable system.
As a result, experts say, the power grid that Texans depend on to heat and cool their homes and run their businesses has become less and less reliable — and more susceptible to weather-related emergencies."
