Support HCDP at Our ‘Bid on Blue’ Silent Auction May 26

Bid On Blue with Beto O'Rourke

The Harris County Democratic Party is hosting Bid on Blue, a virtual silent auction, on May 26, 2021 at 7:00 PM!

We're thrilled to have Beto O'Rourke opening the event and speaking about the importance of getting every single Democratic voter out for the 2022 midterm election.

We have an amazing selection of auction items available — like the Ted Cruz Cancun Pilgrimage for Two, where you can retrace the Cancun steps of our cowardly U.S. Senator. Just like Ted Cruz, you’ll get the last non-stop flight for two out of Houston via Southwest Airlines and one night at the Ritz Carlton Cancun. Bonus: We’ll send a foldable cutout of Ted Cruz with you to pose with in Cancun, and we’ll make those pics into a postcard to send to Ted. (Item donated by Benjamin Hernandez)

Sign up for the auction and start bidding today!

On Our Blog: Proposed Education Bill Would Curb Effective Teaching Methods

Education Bill

I have been a history, government, and social studies teacher for almost a decade. In my classes, I make certain that my students are presented with multiple perspectives on historical events, and we discuss why people might see an event differently. This is a part of the job of every social studies teacher. Discussion of perspective and bias is intrinsic to teaching social studies. Texas House Bill 3979 will make that more difficult by adding ”teachers who choose to discuss current events or widely debated and currently controversial issues of public policy or social affairs shall, to the best of their ability, strive to explore such issues from diverse and contending perspectives without giving deference to any one perspective.”

Houston Chronicle: 'Collective Amnesia': Texas Politicians Knowingly Blew 3 Chances to Fix the Failing Power Grid

Texas Freeze

Over the last decade, lawmakers have "left the state’s lightly regulated energy markets alone, choosing cheap electricity over a more stable system.

As a result, experts say, the power grid that Texans depend on to heat and cool their homes and run their businesses has become less and less reliable — and more susceptible to weather-related emergencies."
