Candidate Petition Signing

There will be a petition signing event for candidates in the designated patio area at HCDP’s Road to 2022 fundraiser. All participants in the petition signing event must purchase a ticket to enter.

Petitions are required for judicial candidates, whether currently in office or not. All other candidates may submit a petition instead of a filing fee, if they wish to do so. The number of signatures needed to avoid having to pay a filing fee varies by office.

HCDP Volunteer Highlight: Susan Woodyard

Susan Woodyard Volunteer Highligh

Meet Susan Woodyard, HCDP Front Desk Volunteer Coordinator. Susan is originally from Connecticut, coming to Houston decades ago by way of Washington, DC. She says that was when she became a committed Democrat.

Susan says, “Retirement isn’t an option since I seem to have made a career of volunteering.” She served in a variety of roles in Cy Fair ISD, and eventually ran and won a seat on the CFISD school board.

“Living in a conservative district I had to find other Democrats, and volunteering with HCDP has been exciting, stimulating, occasionally disappointing (some elections just didn't go our way) and a labor of love.”

Susan is closing in on 14 years as an HCDP volunteer! “I have had multiple roles,” she says. “Many know me as the coordinator for the front desk staff, keeping 16 to 25 volunteers scheduled and informed. But I have also served as a precinct chair, election judge and SD secretary. I co-founded Cypress-Tomball Democrats and was the scheduler for a former Party Chair.

“Doing all of this allows me to stay informed and indirectly help elect Democrats. This, along with the current threat to our democracy keeps me motivated. The bonus is new friends, stimulating conversation, and working with wonderful people who are always willing to help.”
