If you’re at the convention and see one of our HCDP staff, say hello!
POTUS Signs Executive Order on Abortion Rights, Calls on Action by Voters

POTUS Signs Executive Order on Abortion Rights, Calls on Action by Voters
Last week, President Biden signed an executive order with the goal of applying federal protections for those seeking and providing abortion care. The order aims to “protect and expand access to the full range of reproductive healthcare services,” such as emergency contraception and IUDs (amongst others), and ensuring that pregnant women are entitled to life-saving emergency care when in need. It also improves legal protections for patients and healthcare providers and seeks to improve public awareness of reproductive healthcare practices.
During the signing event, President Biden acknowledged that federal avenues on this issue are limited and urged Americans to vote this November and elect members of Congress who will work to protect these rights.

Houston Sees Spiking Ozone Concentrations
![]() |
“Since the beginning of the year, Texas air monitors have recorded 43 days as of Tuesday when ozone concentrations were high enough somewhere in the state to be considered unhealthy by the Environmental Protection Agency.” The EPA recently cracked down on the Houston and Dallas regions for violating national ozone standards. But “the EPA never gets to do its work because it’s always going to be challenged politically… Some states, like Texas, will sue the EPA no matter what. And it delays things,” said Victor Flatt, an environmental law professor at the University of Houston Law Center. |
President Biden Commemorates Passing of New Bipartisan Gun Safety Bill
![]() |
"President Biden on Monday commemorated the passage of the recent bipartisan gun control legislation, declaring elected officials have ’finally moved that mountain’ to reform the nation's firearms laws after nearly three decades of inaction due to political gridlock."

Precinct Chair Corner

As we ramp up, it is important to be aware of some of the tools at your disposal.
VAN (Voter Action Network) is one of the most important tools at your disposal in Democratic organizing. We have created new accounts for the newly elected precinct chairs. After the account was created, you were sent an invite to set up your ActionID. If you did not respond within 48 hours, you will need a new invitation to use VAN. You can do this by emailing your name and precinct to VAN@HarrisDemocrats.com. Returning precinct chairs' accounts were extended to June 2024, the end of the precinct chair cycle. They should not notice any issue.
All VAN issues should be reported to VAN@HarrisDemocrats.com.
Should a voter need to know their precinct and district assignments, they can use the Find My Precinct utility. From www.HarrisDemocrats.com, under the Elections tab, you will find the utility. Any registered voter can use this utility. Should you need to receive that voter information, substitute your email for the voter's and the information will be emailed to you. Give it a try!
Look for more information in the coming weeks!
ALSO! The next badge order will close on July 24 so we can have them in time for the August CEC.
You can order yours here.

Recap: Coordinated Campaign Volunteer Kickoff Party

Thank you to everyone who came out to HCDP’s Coordinated Campaign Kickoff at Axelrad last week!
HCDP held a Coordinated Campaign Kickoff at Axelrad on Thursday. Organizers and volunteers from a multitude of campaigns were present along with other Democratic candidates and judges.
County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth spoke about the importance of electing Democrats up and down the ticket in Harris County. County Commissioner candidate Lesley Briones highlighted the importance of getting our friends, neighbors, and family to participate in neighborhood canvassing.
Judge Angela Graves Harrington discussed the importance of helping raise funds for Democrats and the local Democratic party. Jordan Bowen, HCDP’s Organizing Director, outlined our plan to win, and Chris Rice, HCDP Voter Registration & Training Director, talked about the largest demographic in Harris County, our Latino neighbors, and the importance of making sure we turn out those votes.
It is imperative that Democrats are fired up with less than four months until Nov. 8. There is still a lot of work to be done in our community.
Be part of progress. Join other Harris County Democratic volunteers, and let’s win this together!!!
T-Minus 4 months until change,
Team HCDP
