Gov. Abbott’s Plan B Remark is ‘Tone Deaf’ Solution for Rape, Incest Victims to Prevent Pregnancy, Says HCDP Chair
In defending the state’s draconian abortion laws last week, Texas Gov. Abbott said emergency contraception is the solution for rape and incest victims to prevent pregnancy — a statement that “demonstrates remarkable cruelty and absolute fantasy on the part of Texas’ current leader,” said Harris County Democratic Chair Odus Evbagharu.
"Gov. Abbott's statement is both tone deaf and cruel and yet another example of how disconnected he is from the issues facing everyday Texans."
Sept. 10 JRR Dinner Officially Sold Out!
This Saturday's Johnson Rayburn Richards (JRR) dinner is officially sold out!
The event is the most important gathering of the year for Democrats in Harris County, and we're so excited that we have filled our ballroom to capacity.
We are at a pivotal point in our country where we have to be active in our fight for the future we want to see, and we're so glad that Harris County is turning out for that fight in big numbers.
We are thankful to our sponsors who are making this year's JRR possible and grateful for the work of the individuals below who will be honored Saturday night.

Welcome Tanya Djavadzadah, HCDP’s Newest Field Organizer
Please join us in welcoming HCDP’s newest field organizer, Tanya Djavadzadeh!
Tanya is a Houston native who is experienced in the politics and culture of the city. A photographer, storyteller, and aspiring filmmaker, Tanya wants to shine light on dark topics in the world.
If you see Tanya out in the field, make sure to ask about how you can get involved to help keep Harris County blue!
“Working in this space has given me the opportunity to understand the people of this city and their needs in a greater way. I’ve been wanting to work in a place where inspiring leadership, respect, and the fight for democracy go hand in hand - HCDP is just that.”
~ Tanya Djavadzadeh
RSVP for the Q3 CEC
The 3rd quarterly County Executive Committee (CEC) meeting will be held on Thursday, September 29 at the Jersey Village Civic Center.
The CEC is a quarterly meeting where members come together to discuss important party business. Election Day is getting closer and it’s crucial that Democrats stay strong and involved as we cross the finish line.
Texas Bail Reform Reduced Jail Time and Crime, New Study Says
Harris County misdemeanor bail reforms have resulted in "fewer low-level offenders in jail and improved public safety," according to a new study.
The research refutes extremist talking points about bail reform frequently used by Republicans in Texas.
Make a Plan to Vote Early
Early voting is Oct. 24 - Nov. 4 and if you are able, you should make a plan to early vote!
This election is too important to leave anything to chance. Voting early ensures that you are given the opportunity to make your voice heard, regardless of long lines, rain, and anything else November 8 has in store.
Then, make a plan to go vote!
Volunteers Needed for the Home Stretch
Get involved today! Join one of our upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Precinct Chair Corner
Need information about another precinct chair, or want to know which precincts are adjacent to each other? You can do that through the Precinct Chair Portal.
The portal can be accessed by going to www.precinctprogress.com. It does NOT use your VAN userid, but rather has its own userid and password.
Every precinct chair has an account. If you do not know your userid and password, the best way to find out this information is to click on “Forgot Userid/Password” after you click on “Log on”. You will receive an email back with your userid and a temporary password.
After you get logged on, the precinct chair directory can be found on the left side of the first page. When you click on one of the radius options, you will receive a map of the precincts that surround the precinct you are viewing.
For assistance, please email PC-PortalAdmins@HarrisDemocrats.com
