House Democrats Pass Build Back Better Plan

‘Much-Needed Expansion of the Social Safety Net,’ Says HCDP Chair

Houston — House Democrats on Friday morning passed the Build Back Better plan, a pillar of President Biden’s domestic agenda designed to expand the social safety net.

The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate where it is expected to face many challenges and some changes during negotiations.

In response to House passage of the bill, HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu issued the following statement:

“The Build Back Better plan reflects a major, much-needed expansion of the social safety net.

“The provisions for childcare, health care and climate change will have a transformational impact on our nation, addressing needs that have gone unaddressed for far too long.

“By including some of the biggest measures we’ve seen to combat climate change and tackle inequities in access to child care, this bill is an investment in our future and in the future of our children.

“Although there will be hurdles in the Senate, passage of the plan in the House is an enormous achievement — one that we are celebrating today.”
