Message to No-Show GOP Commissioners: ‘Stop Defunding’ Law Enforcement
Cagle, Ramsey ‘Demonstrate an Ongoing Failure of Leadership,’ Says HCDP Chair
HOUSTON – A group of law enforcement officers gathered in front of Harris County Commissioners Court today with a sign saying “Stop Defunding,” a message “clearly meant for no-show commissioners Jack Cagle and Tom Ramsey, who are intentionally derailing the county budget approval process,” said Odus Evbagharu, Harris County Democratic Party Chair.
“These Republican Commissioners need to show up and do their jobs,” Evbagharu said.
“By continuing to skip Commissioners Court meetings, Cagle and Ramsey demonstrate an ongoing failure of leadership. Voters are taking notice because each of us will feel the negative repercussions of this political theater.
“Failure to pass our county’s budget not only means cuts to law enforcement salaries. It also will result in incomplete and delayed street repairs, closed health clinics, longer emergency room wait times, and more for the people of Harris County.
“Both Cagle and Ramsey need to stop wasting valuable time — time that should be spent making key decisions that impact the lives of residents of Harris County.
