Texas Secretary of State to Audit 2020 Election Results in State’s Largest Counties
‘The Democratic Process That Defines Us as a Nation is Under Threat,’ Says HCDP Chair
The Texas Secretary of State tonight announced it will conduct a forensic audit of 2020 election results in four of the state’s largest counties: Collin, Dallas, Harris and Tarrant.
In response to the announcement, Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu made the following statement:
“This process is absolutely absurd and designed by Republicans to further disenfranchise voters — especially Black and brown voters who we know are more likely to live in populous counties.
“Maybe the GOP and Donald Trump himself aren’t clear about this, but Trump won the state in an election that was declared ‘smooth and secure’ by the Texas Secretary of State.
“The state announced this audit within hours of Donald Trump’s push for one. Who is Governor of the State of Texas Greg Abbott or Donald Trump?
“These false claims of fraud are being used to limit access to the ballot, and we are very clear that the goal of this exercise is to prevent Black and brown voters from freely and openly participating in our electoral process.
“We must call out the dishonesty and hypocrisy of Republican leaders who continue to push lies about election fraud – because the democratic process that defines us as a nation is under threat.”
